You don't have to have a degree in physics to own an RV but you do need to know your digits. Some of these numbers are handy to have in your cockpit when your driving down the road while some of these are for maintenance.

You can download the PDF here. Know Your Digits PDF

Once you have completed the worksheet, make multiple copies to keep in your hauler, RV and home. The first page contains information about your towing vehicle (hauler) or towed vehicle (toad). Although you may think all of this information is available, having it in one place is handy and safe. What if someone else had to provide your information in case of an emergency?

There is a large section to add notes on the first page. Please add the steps you take to hitch your RV or toad. Particularly any setting that you use in your vehicle. Some information like your tongue weight will need to be calculated for your specific hauler.

One the second page is information specific to your RV. Many of these measurements can be found in your owners manual but some measurements such as Height or Dry weight (w8) may change based on what you have installed such as satellite dishes. Remember the dry weight from the manufacturer is for a vehicle that has never been filled, even if you have emptied all your tanks there will be some liquid that can add weight. Ground clearance is important, you should measure your lowest point under your RV fully loaded. We had a travel trailer who’s black water pipe was 8 inches from the ground and yes, we cracked it cutting a tight corner.

We find it useful to carry a folding wooden ruler to check our measurements on the road. What if a an overpass is not marked in some of the more rural area, we can pull to the side and measure it. Better than being stuck under it.
